eThekwini Municipality wishes to inform residents of Northern areas of Durban about the shut down of the afore mentioned treatment works. This will affect the supply of water in particular Northern areas of Durban.
This unprecedented situation is as a result of high voltage cables that are supplying power to this facility being damaged by cable thieves. As a result, city’s Electricity Department is hard at work to repair them.
The following reservoirs are therefore affected:
§ Emona Reservoir
§ Hambanathi Reservoir
§ Metcalfe Reservoir
§ Belvedere Reservoir
§ Tongaat South Reservoir
§ Mamba Ridge Reservoir
§ Jon Roz Reservoir
§ Burbreeze Reservoir
The following areas will experience shortage of water supply outages until the affected reservoirs are fixed.
Emona, Vanrova area, Hambanathi area, Metcalfe area, Ghandi’s Hill, Tongaat Central, Plane Street, Watson Highway, Brake Village, Belvedere area, Rajkomaar’s Farm, Flamingo Heights, Watsonia, Belgate, Gwala’s farm & informal area (high level area), Chelmsford, Buffeldale, Mitanager, Watsonia, Trurolands, Ghandinager, Amanzinyama offices, Walter Reid Road, Jon Roz area, Wewe area, Maidstone, Fairbreeze Area, Sandfieds, Pringle Village, Noodsberg Road, Mgwaveni, Sandfields, Maidstone ,Culs Farm and Burlan
The Municipality has mobilised water tankers to supply all affected areas.
The Municipality apologises for inconvenience caused by this state of affairs which is not of its making. EThekwini would like to appeal to the members of the public to be vigilant by assisting the city to get these culprits to face the full might of the law.
